ACE Uganda's research spans nine thematic areas where computation meets Africa's most critical health challenges. Each area combines cutting-edge science with real-world application; generating evidence, building tools, and training the next generation of researchers equipped to transform data into lasting health impact.

Human Genomics & Cancer

Applying genomic sequencing and computational analysis to understand cancer in various populations. Our work spans variant discovery, multi-omics integration, and transcriptomics to characterise tumour mechanisms, identify population-specific risk factors, and build more equitable diagnostic pathways; ensuring that genetic diversity informs, rather than is excluded from, global cancer genomics research.

Malaria Computational Biology

Utilizing computational biology to decode malaria from the molecular level upward. We integrate genomics, structural bioinformatics, and epidemiological modelling to investigate parasite evolution, drug and insecticide resistance, and vector dynamics; generating the evidence needed to design more effective, targeted malaria control strategies across diverse transmission settings.

ACE operates one of East Africa's most powerful research computing clusters, providing scientists across the continent with infrastructure for large-scale genomic analyses, epidemiological simulations, and AI model training. Our HPC facility removes a critical barrier to research, making world-class computational power locally accessible and continuously available.
