Held from 13th–17th October 2025 by the African Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Data Intensive Sciences - Uganda at the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) and powered by Google DeepMind, the contest brought together 24 brilliant scientists from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, & Tanzania. The goal was to empower East African scientists in protein structure prediction: harnessing the power of AlphaFold to tackle real-world health challenges in antimicrobial resistance, human genomics, synthetic biology, food science, animal health, and the environment.
