ACE HPC Compute Core
The ACE data centre housing a high-performance computing environment with 320 cores, 1.25 TB RAM and 1.5 PB of high-speed storage — powering genomics, AI, and large-scale data science across Africa.
The ACE Compute Core is a purpose-built server room housing the centre's high-performance computing environment. It was installed in 2017 through the NIH/NIAID/OCICB partnership and has been continuously upgraded since.
The cluster provides ACE researchers, students and authorised external collaborators with on-demand access to significant computational resources, enabling workloads that are impossible on desktop hardware — from whole-genome sequencing pipelines to deep-learning model training.
The infrastructure connects to Uganda's national research and education network (RENU) via a dedicated 10 Gbps fibre link and to the global internet at 200 Mbps, ensuring fast data transfer to and from international databases and collaborators.
