Eva Akurut

Eva Akurut (BSc, MSc) is a Bioinformatician, She-Data Science, Cancer Genomics Fellow at the ACE-Uganda, and PhD candidate in Bioinformatics at Makerere University, Uganda. Akurut's research interests span cancer genomics, immunoinformatics, structural biology, proteomics, AMR, disease-modelling, biomarker discovery, precision medicine, and computational drug/vaccine design. Her doctoral research focuses on the computational design of neoantigen-based vaccines for non-small cell lung cancer. She applies advanced computational/bioinformatics approaches to identify clinically relevant biomarkers, characterize tumor-specific mutations, predict immunogenic neoantigens, and support the development of next-generation therapeutics and cancer immunotherapies. Her expertise includes next-generation sequence analysis, multi-omics data integration, mathematical/ computational modelling, protein structure prediction, molecular docking, and in-silico methods for genomics, drug and vaccine discovery. She has contributed to research in vaccines, cancer, tuberculosis, AMR, NCDs, plus emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. Akurut is passionate about translating biological data into innovative solutions for disease prevention, diagnostics, therapeutics, and improved health outcomes in Africa.
