Florence Nakabiri

Florence Nakabiri is a PhD candidate in Bioinformatics at Makerere University, with a research focus on applying genomics and computational biology to address health challenges affecting African populations. Her current doctoral research focuses on the genomic determinants of blood pressure in African populations, integrating large-scale genomic data analysis approaches to improve understanding of hypertension and related non-communicable diseases. Florence is a University of Cambridge-Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute alumna, where she explored the application of dried blood spots for detecting circulating tumor DNA in resource-limited settings. She holds a Master’s degree in Bioinformatics from Makerere University, where she investigated the genomic characterization of common malaria rapid diagnostic test target genes across African populations, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences from Mbarara University of Science and Technology. Through her work, Florence aims to address locally relevant health challenges, including NCDs and infectious diseases, while strengthening genomics capacity and advancing equitable healthcare solutions across Africa.
