Sandra Babirye Ruth

Sandra is a bioinformatician passionate about advancing genomics and precision medicine in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). She focuses on cancer genomics and bacterial genomics, specifically antimicrobial resistance (AMR), integrating computational methods, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and bioinformatics, to uncover genomic determinants of disease and resistance mechanisms. She holds a BSc in Biomedical Sciences and an MSc in Bioinformatics. Her MSc research leveraged machine learning and bioinformatics to understand genetic diversity and predict antimicrobial resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis clinical isolates from Uganda, supported by a fellowship under the Makerere University Data Science Research Training Program to Strengthen Evidence-Based Health Innovation, Intervention, and Policy.
